Default Mildew / Mold on Inside of Dishwasher
Model Number: PLD2855RFC0   Brand: Frigidaire   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hi -
I have had a black mildew / mold covering the inside tub and racks for quite some time. We cleaned it out but it has since returned. I am trying to determine the source of the problem. I have replaced the drain pump recently so am confident it is draining. I am concerned the HEAT DRY option is not working or possibly the heating element is burned out? The plastic dishes will always be wet at the end of the cycle, even with a rinse aid. The plates and such will dry but that is about all.

1. How can I verify the HEAT DRY option is actually functioning?
2. Is there any other troubleshooting that may help?

Thank you much for any assistance!

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for FRIGIDAIRE PLD2855RFC0 Frigidaire/dishwasher | AppliancePartsPros.com

See the attachment for the tech sheet

1. How can I verify the HEAT DRY option is actually functioning?

Open the door during heated dry to see if the element is hot.
Just be careful that youu do not burn your fingers.
Could also run the diagnostics in the tech sheet to see if it is heating up.

2. Is there any other troubleshooting that may help?
Unplug/remove power from the unit.
Measure across the hi-limit thermostat and heater with a meter.
Should be about 15 ohms.
If open disconnect one wire at the hi-limit and measure it, should be 0 ohms.
If infinite ohms it needs replacing.
If closed (o ohms) measure across the heating element, should be 15 ohms approx.
If open it needs replacing.

If the above are OK and the wires from the control board to the heater are OK then the control board is probably shot.

If you do not own a meter, I would suggest you purchase a one. You can get a decent digital multimeter for under $20.00. You do not need fancy though it is nice if the leads are a couple feet long.
If it saves ordering one unnecessary part it has paid for itself and you end up owning a useful tool.
Most places will not let you return electrical parts so if you order it, you own it.
A couple things to watch when measuring ohms and continuity
1. Always remove power from the machine otherwise you could blow your meter.
2. Always disconnect at least one side of any device you are checking. This eliminates the possibility of measuring an alternate/parallel circuit path.
3. When checking for closed contacts and continuity use the lowest scale (Usually 200 ohms). Then try higher scales. This scale is 0 to 200 ohms so if the device you are measuring is 300 ohms this scale would show an open circuit which it is not, you are just measuring outside the scale's dynamic range.

There is a good STICKY at the start of this forum about it's use.

To kill the mold add a cup of bleach to the unit during the first wash.
No dishes and no detergent.
Let it run for a couple minutes and then stop it and let it sit for 15 minutes.
Then let the cycle continue to the end.
Once doe leave the door open for half an hour or so, to let any residual chlorine dissipate.

Was able to track down the problem to a loose connection at the thermostat. Thanks so much for the help, this was a huge help. One wash with actual heat and a ton of the mildew came away. Thanks again!

You are welcome

And thanks for getting back to us. Now when others search for a similar problem they will see what actually worked instead of just suggestions about what could be the cause.
