Model Number: 66516372301 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi. I want to test the pressure switch (also called the sensor), but i can't see how to disconnect it. The wires seem permanently attached. How would I replace it if I needed to? http://www.*************************...kieSuppo rt=1
Background: dishes not getting clean, checked for gunk/debris in the sump, ran diagnostic cycle, seemed to indicate pressure switch problem. Ads By Google Related Models |

Have you checked the chopper as described in one of our previous threads: whirlpool dishwasher
The pressure switch has two terminals as you can see on the following picture: ![]() Gene.

Thanks for answering so fast, Gene. I did check the chopper, it's fine. The part you pictured isn't the one I'm referring to. This one comes off the front of the sump just next to the pump and connects to the drain loop. I'm looking at it in person and in the drawing in the spec sheet I found inside the kick plate. There are two leads (not like the prongs on an electrical outlet) coming off the top with a little white plastic swiveling cover over them.

Well, this is the part which comes up due to the model number you posted and the part name. There are no any other pressure switches and/or sensors shown on the diagrams. I have no clue what it can be.
Gene.

The part I referred to is shown as #46 on the diagram. In the parts list Sears called this part "water level switch" while all other parts stores call it "pressure switch" or "soil sensor".
The part number you posted leads to the picture I posted and it says "Pressure switch, may be referred to as Soil sensor". Gene.

Light dawns. It is of course the same part -- I just couldn't see that angle until I had it disconnected. So with the part totally out, if I get absolutely no needle movement on the tester, the switch is dead, right? The tester is working fine, new battery.

It can not be checked for continuity because this switch closes only when significant soils accumulate in the pump.
What is the water temperature inside the dishwasher? What is the incoming water temperature? What kind of detergent did you use? Gene.
