Default Bosch Smells (and yeah, stinks too)
Model Number: SHU5317/UC   Brand: Bosch   Age: 5 - 10 years

This unit was installed by the previous homeowner in 2001 and we have been in the house for a year and a half and it has never worked very well. It just does not clean the dishes. We have to clean the everything before running the unit but recently we have a new problem. When we run the dishwasher we get a very distinct smell (think rotten eggs). Is this tied to the unit not working properly? We have emptied the basket in the bottom many, many times but it still does not clean well and now it truely stinks.

Hi Gleeb

How is the drain line from the dishwasher connected to the garb disp? Does it have an air gap on top of the sink or it's been connected straight to the garb disp? If it does not have an air gap there is very possible a back up into the dishwasher.
Also remove both filters from the bottom of the dishwasher and clean them.
Did you see a white stuff built up inside the dishwasher? If "yes", then your dishwasher has a calcium built up due to high water hardness.
In such case I would recommend to use the Dishwasher Magic to clean the dishwasher.

Gene.

Exclamation Check the wiring!

I just had a bad burning smell from my Bosch dishwasher and it was the WIRING connection behind the kick panel! Just need a torx driver to open the black kick-panel under the door and on the right is your little electrial junction box. Look for blackening, melting, stick your nose in there. Any doubts, pull out the wires and cut 'em back a bit to fresh shiny wire and reterminate with new wire lugs. TURN THE BREAKER OFF FIRST - in your breaker panel, and measure the wires with an AC Voltmeter to make sure they're dead before you do this! But that was all that was wrong with mine! Idiot who installed it was sloppy and the stranded wire wasn't fully in the wire-nut. When you re-do it, strip TWICE as much stranded on the DW side as solid on the house side and make SURE the stranded part is FULLY within the nut as you tighten it, or do what I did and SOLDER the connections before you put new wire-nuts on there! -Phil
