The "Normal" and "Low Energy" buttons on the front would only work once in awhile. We usually use the "Heavy" cycle. I took the console apart, peeled the plastic face away and got access to the steel, tactile contacts embedded.

I cleaned them all with crocus cloth, placed them back in, and put everything back together. But, then after that, none of the buttons worked.

With the power on, none of the lights would come on, yet the heating element came on, without any indication of shutting off.

Any idea of what I can do? Is there a better way to clean the contacts?

Thanks!

Looks like a bubble keyboard.
They are not cleanable.
Usually if a couple keys do not work it is a dirty edge connector or a bad ribbon cable, not the keypads themselves.

At minimum I would say you need a new keyboard.

Here is the tech sheet

As you can see your two bad keys have a common output line.

Thanks, denman! This makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the responsiveness!

I think I may have fried the electronic board as well somehow. Since this dishwasher is about 9 years old, and the parts would be nearing $200, I'm thinking the better decision is going with a new one.
