Default Help diagnose / troubleshoot Kitchenaid Architect Series
Model Number: KUDR02FSSS   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Glad to find such a helpful forum, but couldn't find any posts that addressed my particular issue:

Dishwasher cannot be run as there is an error at the panel:
  • motor is okay
  • can enter cancel / drain mode
  • have tried unplugging
  • learned that reset codes exist and tried some random combinations, which enabled me to run the dishwasher, only to have it fail again. Reset it one more time, now can't get it to reset any more (but I don't know the actual codes.)
Current panel lighting description:
  • no lights blinking
  • heavy duty, quick clean up, rinse only can be selected
  • start will not light up or activate on any of these though
  • cancel is selectable
  • heat dry / lock will light up automatically when heavy duty is selected
I have seen comments in other posts that are different brands and models about reset codes, ribbon replacements, control boards, heating elements, etc., but don't know where to start.

I can also add (though this may be irrelevant) that my wife likes to put a small amount of vinegar in cycles to keep spots off the glasses. She doesn't do it every time, but probably more often than needed.

It's four years old and has many nice features and a stainless tub, so I would hate to replace it. I also don't want to dump a ton of money on parts and repairs and service calls. Advice, troubleshooting, diagnostics are greatly appreciated!

Dave

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for KUDR02FSSS models | AppliancePartsPros.com

You seem to be missing one digit at the end of your model number so I am going to assume it is a SSS2

See the attachment for the tech sheet

First I would try cleaning the connectors on the keypad, control board and the connecting ribbon cable.

If that does nothing then you will need a meter.
Check the connecting ribbon cable to make sure all the tracks have continuity.
If OK
Then check the keypad (control panel), if that checks out OK then odds are it is the control board that is causing your problems.

Still a bit of a crap shoot but your odds are better.

Connector Cleaning / Checking
Unplug the unit
Open it up
Remove the ribbon cable.
Clean all the edge connector.
If it is the type where there is not a connector just the insulation is removed, it can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser as it is too abrasive.
Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for hairline cracks. A magnifying glass helps here.
Would not hurt to clean the connector on the board. Use electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush. Be gentle and do not reconnect till all the solvent evaporates.
Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Default More advice requested

Ok, so I opened it up and could see that there was corrosion on a couple of the white connector wires, seemed to be P-3, P-4 or in that block. I wrapped the exposed portions in electrical tape to see if I could restore the connection. Sealed it all back up, plugged it in, and all the lights on the control panel were active. Loaded a few dishes into the dishwasher to run a cycle as a test. By the time I was ready, it was already shorted again.

So I'm under the impression that the wiring is shot on these and potentially some other connections.

What would you recommend at this point? Purchasing parts for replacing all the cables & harnesses? I am guessing that is more cost effective than a replacement, though I am uncertain as the remaining life span of the unit.

Default Model correction

By the way, I wanted to mention that this is unit KUDR02FSSS3 - sorry for leaving the final digit off...

By the look of it the harness you would need is Item 12 in Section 3.
It comes up as Out Of Stock which often translates into obsolete.

Personally I would not put $100.00 into the unit unless it was in very good condition and without actually being there I cannot say if the harness is repairable.

Default Thanks, Denman

Thank you for your prompt responses to my questions. Even though we didn't end up "solving" it, I feel much better that we walked through it. Grateful for your input in this forum Dave
