Unless they checked out the pump both of them are guessing.

It could be the pump.
Check that the filter screens and impeller/chopper are free of debris.

Could also be a low fill problem.
This can be checked by adding a couple quarts of hot water after each fill during a cycle.
Then if it washed OK low fill is probably the cause.
Usually the pump will be noisier with a low fill also be careful to not overfill the unit.

If you think it is low fill then remove the water inlet valve from the machine and check/clean the screen filter on the input side of the valve.

Do not permanently remove it from the valve as it is there to keep crud out which could hold the valve open and cause a flood.

Does the dishwasher have water left in it when the cycles stop? If so it may be bad seals not emptying properly. I had a similar problem and the dishwasher also had alot of water in it after running. The lower pump seal was bad. I am ordering a Pump seal kit and replacig it. For a patch I removed the old seal and trimmed it so I could run the machine, it worked MUCH better and no more leftover water.

Could be worth a look.
