I was hooking up a dishwasher and then ran it through the entire cycle. While observing the different cycles underneath the dishwasher I noticed a small leak at certain times, the leak is right under what i think is called the drain solenoid? when the metal cylinder went down it made a loud noise for about 10 secs. and then stopped when it popped back up. it was during those times that the leaking occured. Do you think the drain solenoid is the cause of the 3" puddle of water or could it be something else? If so is it hard to replace? Also do i have to order the part online or are there stores in my area that would sell the part? If so I live in the Va. Beach/Norfolk area and your suggestion of where there is a store is, would be appreciated...thanks Natalie

Yes it is probably the seal on the shaft that runs the wash/drain flapper valve. You will need Part number: AP2038837
and Part number: AP2059046
This is the seal and the push on nut to hold it in place. Take note how the springs etc. are attached. make yourself a drawing or take a couple pictures. There will be a cir clip on the end of the flapper valve shaft, remove this. Unscrew the solenoid and remove it. Take not of how the push on nut is installed and remove it. You hay have to destroy it getting it off, that is why you need a replacement. Take note of how the seal is installed and remove it. Check/clean the flapper valve shaft, there may be mineral crystals on it. I put a light coating of lithium grease on the seal and at the pump end of the shaft before installing the new seal. Then push on the new nut and reinstall the solenoid assembly in the reverse order that you removed it. I do know where you can purchase the parts locally but any GE parts supplier should have them. Also many dealers will also sell parts. |
