Maytag Panel shows 21
Model Number: MDB7601AWW Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
My control pannel shows 21 and won't change unless I reset the power

What does it do at this point? Does it wash, drain or stays silent?

Gene sometime it resets and works and sometime I have to leave it shut down for a while to get it to reset.

It will work as I said then sometime I have to leave it off for a while and then it will reset and work again

Sounds very unusual. It can be a loose connection somewhere as well as a bad control board.
If it does it not very often I would keep use the dishwasher until it will die. Gene.
