I bought a new upper diswasher rack from your company but can not remove the caps on the upper rail. How do I remove them. and if I order new ones do they come singlely or a pair.

Pull and Twist!!! Don't get to rough, they will break, I do believe they are 1 per package.

You need to get a flat head screwdriver or something sililar, I use a key. pry the back piece back far enoughso it's even with the indent on the rail and twist it out.

Those end caps... a simple but elegant piece of engineering! As you look at the upper rack of the washer, and at the end cap on your right (for this example) you'll first notice that portion protruding through a 1/8th inch slot to the outer side of the rail. Don't try to push that in... instead, look from the inside of the rail and notice a thin plastic blade (the rear-most part of the cap body) that sticks upward farther than the rest of the cap body into the inner groove of the rail. Bend it gently toward the rear (with a flat screwdriver or key) which in effect reduces its upward reach. When the blade is bent back far enough to clear the lip of the groove, use your free hand to grasp the cap from the outside front end and twist it counter-clockwise (as viewed from the front and looking toward the rear of the dishwasher). It should fairly easily squeeze out of the inner side of the rail in the process. Imagine Pinocchio lying on his back on the bottom mattress of a bunk bed. Literally lying, as his nose is sticking a couple feet upward into the mattress above. If we bend his nose toward his feet, we can now roll him out of bed! Hope this helps!

Jona's suggestion on removing end caps absolutely works. I'd spent half an hour trying to figure out how to get end caps off to replace roller wheels. Within 5 minutes of reading the post, I was finished. This information saved me at least $65.

of course now that i replaced the upper rack, that little 'water tower' thing doesn't quite fit and is about 1/2" too tall .. will not having that affect how well it cleans?

Thank you this solved our problem and once we did this the end caps came right off, installed the new rack and put the caps on. Its working perfect.

How to get off the end caps off my ten-year old GE dishwasher rack was a tough puzzle to me as well, but the above suggestion made the process a lot easier. . I don’t know if my end caps are precisely the same as those described above, but there are similar steps. The secret to their removal was the discovery that the face of the end cap consists of two surfaces that lock together when installed. The end piece, after removal, has an upside down “V”-shape when viewed from the top. The front face of the end cap is attached to one leg of the upside-down V, while the back surface of the end cap is attached to the other leg of the “V”. When viewed from the front, the back surface of the left-side cap is shaped like the letter “C”, while the leg of the front surface is shaped like an elongated “O.” Picture a letter “C” whose font size is about twice as tall as that for the letter “O.” If sized properly, and if the letter “O” is to the right of the letter “C”, the letter “O” can be snapped into the body of the letter “C” by opening up the ends of the letter “C”. To remove the end cap, one must pry apart the legs of the upside-down “V” as viewed from the top while facing the dishwasher. Once the “V” is opened up, the tongue that protrudes into stainless steel runner will withdraw, and the end cap can be slid off. To open the “V” without marring the appearance of the end cap, do as in the prior post. Pry the “V” open by inserting a small blade screwdriver between the plastic end cap and the top of the stainless rail. Once done, the front face will partially separate from the rear face, and a blade screw driver can be used to pry to “O’ shaped leg out from the “C” shaped clamp.
