We recenlty went through a hurricane and my dishwasher had a power surge. It works for a while and then the only thing that it does is that the cancel button will cause it to try to drain. Twice we have taken the control panel apart to check for continuity and found no problems. We have checked the door latch and the thermal fuse with no problems found. The only thing we see wrong is that there is some discoloration on the ribbon cable that connects the control module to the panel. Twice we have decided to replace it and disconnected it from the power and removed it only to decide to repair it instead. When we plug it back in, it begins working again. Do we need to replace the control module? Your help is appreciated.

The problem is that it could be the control panel or the control board or ribbon cable. I do not know what Items 14 and 13 in the "Control panel parts " section are. If they are the ribbon cable then I would replace only the cable. It does sound like a ribbon cable problem, Sometimes they can develop hairline cracks in the tracks. If it is clear plastic you may be able to see this with a magnifying glass while bending the cable. Can also check with a meter, will probably need two people, one to hold the meter leads on each tracks the other to bend the cable since odds are good it will read OK if left alone. Could also try cleaning the edge connectors with some electronics contact cleaner just make sure all the solvent has evaporated before reinstalling. If it is the type where there is no connector, just no insulation on the ends, they can be cleaned with a pencil eraser. Do not use an ink eraser it is too abrasive. |
