I have a GE triton dishwasher. the upper arm won't spin. Had tech tell me I needed to replace motor. I have pulled the arm and checked for clogs but it is clear. the lower arm comes up and sprays but the upper arm won't turn. Can't afford to replace it and all else seems to work fine. Any suggestions? Please!

Check in the sump to be sure there is no debris in there or anything wrapped around he chopper. Be careful as there is often broken glass in the sump.
Check the water level. Most units fill to just under the heating element. Usually with a low fill you will hear the difference because the pump will suck air, cavitate and sort of growl.
On e way to check this is to add a couple quarts of hot water after a fill. Just be careful to not overfill it. If the upper arm now spins then low fill is probably your problem.
The most common cause of this is a partially clogged filter screen on the input side of the water valve. Unplug the unit and shut off the water supply. Remove the valve from the machine and clean the screen. Do not permanently remove the screen from the valve as it is there to keep crud out of the valve which could keep it open and cause a flood.
Before restarting the machine add some water to it. These pump can burn out the seals if run when dry. |
