The "clean" light blinks continuously and the machine will not start.

John,

The description you supplied would indicate a problem with the water heating cycle.

You'll need to check your water temperature, it should be at least 120 dgrs, in the tub on the first fill.

You'll need to circuit check the heater element for a closed circuit.

You'll need to check the Hi limit thermostat circuit, to see if it is stuck open.

The easiest way to accomplish that is :

Access the electronic control board, inside the control panel.

With a multi meter check across these two wires, P3 (White w Red stripe) and P9 (Blue with Red stripe) with the wires disconnected from the control board, you should read 10 to 30 ohms if the circuit is proper, if you get no reading ,you'll need to check those comonents.

If you have those readings, it's a safe bet;

Your water is not hot enough at the start of the cycle.

You'd have a bad control board.

Your Technical Data sheet, should be attached to the inside of the lower Kick Plate panel, you may need it.

The most common control reset procedure, you'll need to reset the control, is :

NOTE 1.
To invoke the Diagnostics Cycle, perform
the following key presses or actions in less than 6 sec
while in standby:
Heated Dry

➙ Normal ➙ Heated Dry ➙ Normal

To rapid advance one interval at a time, press the
Start/Resume key.

Invoking Service Diagnostics clears all status and
last ran information from memory and restores
defaults; It also forces the next cycle to be a sensor
calibration cycle.
Calibration cycles begin with a “sensor check” to
determine whether the dishwasher has an OWI soil
sensor. If the control detects an OWI, it forces two
rinses to occur prior to Final Rinse (to assure clear
water), then calibrates the OWI during the final
rinse.
NOTE 2.

Turn on all LEDs immediately upon
receiving entry sequence (even if door open) and

throughout this first interval as a display test.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

Thanks, Joe! I'll do the checks/tests tonight.

Bill,

That happens, quite often, sometimes it get's embarassing, but...

You should have everything checked out, diagnosed in no time,

Drop us a line, if you have any questions, and let us know how things went.

Johnny,

Did you do the checks in the previous posts(water temperature, and heater and thermostat resistances) ?

Using the Kenmore prefix numbers, your machine was produced by the same manufacturer, as to the best of my knowledge, the control diagnostics and reset procedure and circuit resistances are common to all units produced.

It is not abnormal to see some discoloration on control boards or shields, andf if you've already checked the other components, it could be from the heater circuit on the control board(if or when it failed).

I just wanted to mention that I could not clear the codes and advance through the cylces because I did not have the door completely closed. The door must be fully closed to close the door switch which is part of the heater circuit. After the door was closed tight, I was able to clear the codes.

Thanks Bill,

Johnny, if you follow the programming information in the previous posts, you'll be fine

Just remember the dishwasher needs to be in "standby" OFF, and the door needs to be closed and locked, when you start.
