After reading the other comments on this subject, I dismantled my dishwasher and found the burnt contact on the controller circuit board. This is the same problem others have reported. Upon checking the heater relay, I found that my board has a 12 volt coil, with contacts rated at 10 Amps, 120 VAC. This should be adequate, and indicates that I have the latest upgraded controller board, but the problem still exists. It occurred to me that maybe the problem is not just the relay, but the amount of copper in the contact for the circuit board. If the contact pad and/or circuit board traces are not large enough, this will cause heating and result in melting the solder or burning the contact pad. I cleaned the board, and re-soldered the contact. Then I added a short length of braid (solder wick) to provide more copper to carry the current. After two weeks of use, I inspected the contact, and found no signs of trouble. A photo of the repaired contact is attached.
