Ge Profile 8400 recently would not adequately clean dishes. Called service man and he said DW is not completely filling with water. Need a "water switch level control" $233.55 and a "water fill valve module" $200.00 The diagnosis seems about right as the dishwasher seems to operate and clean just fine if I open the door and fill the tub with the spray hose from the sink up to about the top of the heating element.

I searched the parts list of this website and can't find anything labeled as described in the description from the repair estimate. Does anybody know what parts he might be describing so I could order the correct ones. Thanks

I can not tell you which parts did he mean. Most likely the problem is a bad (clogged) water inlet valve (#744 on the diagram).

He is talking about the water valve which is pictured above and the water level switch I assume is the float inside the dishwasher at the bottom a little round plastic piece that will move up and down when the water rises. I'm thinking you probably only need one or the other but not both but I could be wrong so don't hold it against me but the prices for the 2 that he gave you are very high it would almost be better to buy a new one if you go by his prices but you can get someone to do it alot cheaper then that...good luck

The dishwasher will start filling but after after about forty five seconds, it starts the wash cycle. I then open the door and it looks like there is not enough water in the tub, as the level of the water is no where near the heating element. Is that normally the amount of time alotted to fill the tub? I tested the float switch (or flood switch)today with a Multitester and I think the switch is good. Could the service guy have missed the diagnosis that bad? thanks

45 seconds sounds about right and that first fill is only the prewash try letting it go through the cycle and drain then when it fills again check that water level and see what it looks like. I'm thinking it may be a bad or clogged water valve or maybe even a clogged water line with hard water deposits..and yes it is possible the service messed up that bad or just wanted to tell you something thats not true like a auto mechanic does...not saying he did but you never know....good luck
