Timer was stuck on wash. Just bought a new timer and installed it. Problem remains but now it is stuck on rinse. Any suggestions??

Does the dishwasher let water in when it gets stuck?

Yes, prior to getting stuck, the dishwasher pulled in water, washed, emptied it and pulled in some more but now gets stuck on rinse and was constantly rinsing (for hours) without discharging the water. Thank you for your help.

I assume the timer motor is not getting voltage when it stops turning. You will need to check why. It may be your water temperature is too low and causing the thermostat to stay closed.
