Kenmore Freezer cold/ fridge warm
I posted this on another forum and I'm still waiting for a reply. I have joined this group in hopes of resolving this issue.-- Greetings, I have a kenmore 59651679100 refrigerator. The freezer works fine but the fridge is 60 degrees. Can anyone tell me what to do? I just bought a house. The fridge is about 8 years old, I think. Last week, the fridge was 42-48 degrees. I looked underneath and the coils were filthy. I cleaned them beautifully. The fridge still would not go below 42-48 degrees. I turned up the fridge and freezer controls to their coldest settings, thinking it might help. I was wrong. Now the freezer is up to 60 degrees. I don't mind getting my hands dirty. If someone can tell me what to do, I'll do it. I suspect, based on all the research I've done on the internet, that someone will tell me to take off the back panel and find the thermostat and see if there is a lot of ice build-up, etc. Or maybe they will tell me to click the defrost timer. That's cool by me. I am having trouble finding on the internet a schematic or instructions that tell me where all of this stuff is located. If someone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Where do I find all of this stuff in my fridge and how should I go about troubleshooting this?
Ok, since I fancy myself a man of action (albeit a not-too-smart man of action), I dove in headfirst and started taking the freezer section apart. I took some pics and attached them. Everything is iced up (as seen in the pics and as read about on the internet). After defrosting with a hair dryer, I found the thermostat and it has a bulge in it (as seen in the pics and as read about on the internet). I don't know where the defrost timer nor the defrost heater are. At this point, I definitely need guidance, as I am an inexperienced refrigerator fixer. Many thanks, folks.
Just a note-- I always thought you could find anything on the internet. A few things I cannot find are a repair manual and good diagrams for this Kenmore 596.51679100 refrigerator. I'm sorta kinda an optimistic guy, and I believe that no problem is unique. Surely, someone has seen this before with this type of fridge, yet I cannot find the information I am looking for. I will certainly post anything positive that I find regarding this issue so the next person won't have to go through same stuff I'm going through now. Take care, everyone.
