Yes, you were right.
In such situation the mounting stem and boot seal has to be replaced.
I can not say this is a very simple job, but with a basic knowledge how to use a hand tools you can do it.

You have to have:
1. The spanner wrench - part number AP3538707
2. A set of socket wrenches
3. A set of hex keys
4. A 1/4' nut driver
5. A hummer

You can find the complete instructions how to replace the mounting stem and boot seal on page 3-35 in the service manual.
