Remove the agitator and the spanner nut. Visually inspect the drive block. If it has to be replaced you will have to remove the cabinet and the inner tub.

GOTCHA!
YES the motor does run while the tub doesn't usually spin , but it's not consistent - that is why I questioned the clutch assembly.

I guess I'll check that out before I order some parts!!

I'll let you know what I find.
