The first thing I would check is the lid switch (#11 on the top break down diagram).

- The part number for the lid switch is AP3100003

Here are the break down diagrams for the Kitchen Aid washer Model KAWS777EZ0

P.S. If the washer is not rusted it is much smarter to keep it.
