Thanks, but that's not it. It seems there might be two types, your type being as described in the repair manual.
Mine is different. There's a hose clamp (OEM spring clamp, not screw-type) around the connection to the pump, but no clamp at the top of the trap, where it meets the tub. Looks like the black rubber that forms the trap extends into the tub, forming a gasket. Viewed from the top of the trap (from inside the tub), this assembly appears as a black gasket ring surrounding a white ring (the top of the white plastic tubelike structure that's inside the rubber exterior). No hose, no seam, no clamp.
The outer tub is already removed from my washer, so that's not an issue.
(BTW, I'm assuming "pin trap" and "manifold trap" are the same thing.)
