Just recently my (in-freezer) ice maker stopped working on my 9 year old Maytag. One of the most distinct symptoms (besides the obvious lack of ice) is that the "cycle time sound" is different. It would normally make a *constant* soft buzzing sound for several seconds (maybe 10) while you heard it pushing water to the tray in the freezer. That sound is much shorter now, and sounds like like it is petering out. Something like air being let out of a balloon (when the balloon is almost empty). It only makes the sound for about 2 seconds. I have verified that the copper line is bringing water to the unit, and have already replaced the inline water filter.
From all I can see, the most likely culprit is the water valve, but I would like to actually test it to see if that is it before I order a replacement.
Could anyone help me out with this one? This is a simple unit (no in-door ice or water dispenser) - just like the old days
